Before I knew what I wanted, I knew I wanted more.
I played football for my state. I filled two books with poems. I started a hundred and sixty projects and finished a few of them.
Every one of them was a door I could have stayed behind.
Then some doors closed on their own.
Work I thought would last. A body that used to do fifty push-ups without thinking. People I was, and can't go back to being.
I kept what they taught me and let the rest go quiet.
What stayed was older than all of it.
My faith. My people. The hands that held me before I could hold anything.
So I carry everything forward, into whatever I make next.
